Please share your thoughts concerning regional issues facing the Northeastern USA.
It is my opinion that the federal government has for too long igorned the special challenges facing the Northeastern Corridor. These challenges include expanding regional mass transit, building high-speed trains, curbing urban sprawl, protecting the environment, and providing effective health care access and coverage.
The incoming administration of Barack Obama has announced a major jobs program of rebuilding America's roads and infrastructure. While I laud him for his vision, particularly regarding high-speed telecommunications infrastructure, I'm afraid that more or better roads or highways is not a solution. We need high-speed rail and an expansive urban commuter rail system akin to Japan - an area of the world with similar urban densities as the Northeast Corridor.
